Espen grew up near the Troll Wall, in Norway, the son of a rock climber. He found himself standing on many Norwegian exit points from a young age, most of them before they were opened, and later saw images of base jumping at the Troll Wall. As such, he became familiar with the sport quite early in his life. When he later started skydiving (2000) and base jumping (2001), he says it felt natural to search for new challenges around the area where he had climbed so much. As BASE progressed in Norway, Espen was a part of the community when iconic figures like Loic Jean-Albert started proximity flying in the famously steep terrain that launched wingsuit BASE into massive popularity in the early 2000s. Pioneering terrain lines, exciting new wingsuit designs, and countless new exit points created what Espen says was the coolest time ever, and he became completely hooked on wingsuit BASE jumping. The rest, as they say, is history.
Espen was the first FAI World Cup winner, took Bronze at the FAI World Championships in 2016 and Gold at the 2018 World Championships, is multiple Norwegian Champion, and has competed well in the Red Bull Aces and many other performance events. Espen enjoys competition and says it provides him with a valuable reality check, and a venue to meet people who inspire him to improve his flying constantly. In Espen’s words, "It’s been ups and downs in both projects and comps. I’ve won some and lost some, but the most inspiring thing is to put on the newest suit from Squirrel and see how much closer we have come to actually flying. And we will, for sure. In a few years we will soar on the winds like paragliders, and I’ll do everything I can to be prepared to share the sky with rad pilots when it happens."
The following pilots joined forces with our company in the early days. We greatly appreciate their faith in us then and their continued support now.
We work with these photographers / videographers to get the imagery here on the Squirrel site, and in our online videos.
